Saint Alvares

Fr. Alvares was the Catholic priest who in 1887 left Goa and Ceylon and joined the Malankara Syrian church. Parumala Mar Gregorios Metropolitan ordained him as Ramban. On 29 July 1889 at the Old Seminary Kottayam, he was elevated as Metropolitan Alvares Mar Julius. This staunch freedom fighter of Goa and watch guard of the Church held on Zealously to the True Faith.
